Out of the Cold

We got off the Rock for Spring Break and went down to Texas to visit my family....

My parents and I left and above the kids and I posing with the longhorns; one even visited us up close! Little man got to celebrate his seventh birthday while we were there and as you can see we had a pirate party. Daniel had a blast he had Grammy, Pops, Uncle Sean, his cousin Hailey, his Dad and half brother Aiden and his paternal Granparents there all to help us celebrate. It was a great day. My baby is getting so big!

We found a fake style old time saloon and played the part a little! All and all we had a great time. I loved seeing my parents, I miss them so much, only wished we had been there longer to visit and stay out of the Alaskan cooold!

Life on the rock in winter is stunning

Who'd a thought ice floats in Kodiak, what a beautiful place.

The kids in our front yard; what a view!

Daniel and Maren testing their legs after two lessons!! They are both doing great and troopers when they fall, as is Ariel. We're getting our swizzles down!!

Ariel doing a sneak attack on me!!

Daniel and Maren had a school singing show. They were both dressed so nice and did a great job. Here they are with their sister after the show with more energy than her!! Ok, my computer program wouldn't cooperate and turn the picture but it's so cute that I had to leave it on!

We caught a few of the locals hanging out on the docks...

It was cold on our morning photo adventure!

Winter is beautiful in Alaska

A Kodiak Sunrise

We've been out and about getting more photos of the snowy landscape and the eagles which are everywhere now down by the ocean and town. It's amazing how many we come across, 16 in one tree! The kids are very busy these days...Ariel, Maren and Daniel are taking ice skating lessons and all coming along great. D and Mar are also taking swimming lessons again and are sooo happy to be back in the water. They sleep great Saturday nights!!

KODIAK DAZE

Getting ready to fly down the hill. Maren working on getting her magic carpet fly ready. Ariel and Daniel climb aboard our boogie board sled. It was a very cold day but we had fun. The kids really enjoyed going off a jump on the hill and Ariel tried out her new snow board. It got down to 11 degrees tonight but I guess it could be worse, was down to -28 in Anchorage!! I don't want to find our if the thermals truly help in the negatives.

This is ice in one of the bays surrounding Kodiak. It's that cold here!! I love the circle effect and thought it was beautiful.

Little man after an afternoon of sleding and ice skating. His poor little face is showing signs of the somedays brutle cold...nothing better than a cherry soda to help you feel a bit better!

Life in Kodiak

Kodiak is a beautiful and rugged place. There is lots to do for the outdoor enthusiasts. We had a great time fishing both on the rivers for Salmons and in the ocean trying to get that prized Halibut! There is a ton of hiking and wildlife viewing, even right outside your back door. The picture of Barometer mountain above is the picturesque view we have from our front room, it's beautiful.
We have had a ton of snow recently, which is not supposed to be the norm for Kodiak this time of year. It makes the roads a bit slick but it's beautiful and the kids have all been having a blast playing in it and sleding. It's been so cold lately that the deer have been coming down from the mountains. We got a photo of this one sitting right by the side of the road.
